Future perspectives for imaging and characterisation methods (DP00BD69-3001) doctoral course is organized by the I4WORLD doctoral programme to take closer look at the imaging and characterization methods developed and the good practices adopted in the doctoral research projects.

Schedule and place: 1-4.6.2026. Course is arranged onsite at Linnanmaa Campus Lo124 and Lo128.

Responsible teacher: Matti Alatalo

Objectives: Doctoral researchers will learn by different cases how to take full advantage of the imaging and characterization methods available to process, enhance and analyse data. A closer look at the methods developed and the good practices adopted in the doctoral research projects.

Mode of delivery: Keynote lectures, discussion, demonstrations and presentations. Each doctoral researcher will have presentation of ones' research topic and be opponent of one presentation. Short pre-assignment requested before the course.

Course topics: Imaging and characterization methods in fields of doctoral researchers. Initial presentation session themes according to I4WORLD main research themes: Good Health and Wellbeing; Affordable and Clean Energy; Sustainable Industries and Production and Clean Water, Biodiversity and Environment.

  • Scientist in charge Veijo Honkimäki, Head of the Structure of Materials group at European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF)
  • Professor Johannes Kettunen, Research Unit of Population Health and Scientific Director of Biocenter Oulu: Biobank-Scale Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology

Target group: Course is mandatory for doctoral researchers selected to the I4WORLD programme and is available for all the doctoral researchers at the University of Oulu. Limited number of participants 40.
