HI Data Forum @LeaF launched with VR event
DATA FORUM What Does Artificial Intelligence Have to Do with Your Research? event launched the Hybrid Intelligence (HI) Data Forum on 14th of December at the University of Oulu. Data Forum is a new hybrid venue for interdisciplinary research that combines technologies and research with Human-AI Co-evolution and Learning in Multi-realities (HI). Data Forum is a part of Hybrid Intelligence (HI) Profilation 7 (2024-2028) research program arranged in collaboration with LeaF Research Infrastructure.
First Data Forum event dived into The world of Virtual Reality: exploring technological advantages in research
The first Data Forum event at the University of Oulu invited its´ audience to learn more about Virtual Reality technology, a research tool for various immersive and computer-generated environments to conduct studies, experiments, or investigations. Virtual Reality allows us to study for example human behavior, cognition, and reactions in a controlled and repeatable way. The immersive nature of VR enhances the sense of presence and engagement, providing researchers with valuable insights into controlled and customizable research environments.
Dr. Matti Pouke, a Virtual Reality researcher at the University of Oulu, Center for Ubiquitous Computing, presented a comprehensive overview of the Virtual Reality foundations, research applications, and a glimpse into the future. Pouke gave a chance to the participants to step into someone else's shoes quite literally, introducing the concepts of embodiment illusions in VR using 3D scans of his teammates.
A demonstration of the new VARJO XR3 Virtual Reality headset in a hands-on session was led by Antti Siipo, a tech expert from the University of Oulu's LeaF Infrastructure. Dr. Satu Kaleva, a Coordinator of Hybrid Intelligence introduced the audience to the fascinating profi7 program of Human-AI Co-evolution and Learning in Multi-realities (HI). Niina Palmu from the LeaF Research Infrastructure introduced the technologies and services available for researchers at the University of Oulu.
