Jukka Hakkola becomes dean of the Faculty of Medicine

The Board of Directors of the University of Oulu has elected Jukka Hakkola as the dean of the Faculty of Medicine for a four-year term starting on 1 August 2025. The dean directs the faculty's activities and is responsible for the economic, efficient and effective performance of the faculty's duties.

Jukka Hakkola has worked at the University of Oulu as professor of pharmacology since 2009 and as the head of the Research Unit of Biomedicine, currently known as the Research Unit of Biomedicine and Internal Medicine, since 2014. He received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Oulu in 1996. Hakkola's research interests include pharmacology and toxicology and hepatic cell and molecular biology.

The University of Oulu is currently recruiting five deans and six education deans for a four-year term starting on 1 January 2026. The University of Oulu is seeking deans for the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Science, the Oulu Business School, and the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. The university is seeking education deans for the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Education and Psychology, the Faculty of Science, the Oulu Business School, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
