Linnanmaa and Kontinkangas campuses will participate in energy-saving campaign

Several actions will be carried out at the campuses of Linnanmaa and Kontinkangas this autumn aimed at saving energy. Due to the energy crisis, the Ministry of Education and Culture has urged organizations to think about steps to conserve energy so that the state does not have to start rationing energy during the coming winter.

It has been decided to reduce the internal temperature of the Linnanmaa and Kontinkangas campuses by about 0.5 to 1 degrees. For example currently, the average temperature of the Linnanmaa campus is approximately 21.5 degrees Celsius. Also, ventilation is adjusted as necessary and the main part of the premises is reduced to a minimum for the night.

— The ventilation of lecture rooms during teaching is not compromised. We also make sure that before teaching the air will still have time to change twice before teaching starts, says Real Estate Specialist Juha Waulu.

In addition, during quiet periods, teaching is concentrated on campuses in only one area and other teaching areas are closed. This can be done around Christmas, for example.

Other measures include turning off computers and campus screens for the night. Laboratory facilities are also carried out to ensure the functionality of the equipment and the fact that they do not use water or energy in vain.

Turn off machines and tip on savings destinations

Students and staff can save energy through their own actions. You should turn off computers whenever you don't use them. Water is also not worth wasting.

Waulu also hopes that students and staff would report campus services any energy-related anomalies, such as faulty lights and appliances. Also, any tips that can save energy are welcome. Message can be send tilat@oulu.fi.

The University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences work together on the Linnanmaa campus. Suomen Yliopistokiinteistöt Oy meanwhile, is renewing the lighting fixtures on campuses to be more energy-friendly and adjusts the part to work with motion sensors. Water flow from water fixtures is also adjusted to be more energy-friendly.

The University of Oulu has facilities approximately 98,100 square metres at the Linnanmaa campus and about 31,200 square metres at the Kontinkangas campus.
