Meet the SAFIRE network: Kaisa-Leena Huttunen
Currently, I am working on my Academy Research Fellow project “Greener rivers in the warming Arctic? Anticipating the short- and long-term effects of additional nutrient inputs” funded by the Research Council of Finland (2023-2027). Geographically, my research is mostly situated in subarctic and arctic regions. Methodologically, I am keen to combine correlative field work with experimental approaches and modern molecular tools with traditional ecological methods. My research covers different aquatic organism groups and trophic levels. Still, stream macroinvertebrates hold a special place as my personal favourites.
I’m excited to return to the university after a few years as a Senior Researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE). For me, SAFIRE provides an inspiring research environment and great opportunities for new openings and diverse collaboration including transdisciplinary aspects to restoration-linked research across ecosystem types. I look forward to learning, exploring, and creating new knowledge together with the SAFIRE community.
