Pertti Huuskonen, Sakari Karjalainen, Leena Nissilä and Anneli Pouta to the Board of the University of Oulu

Industrial Counsellor, MSc (Tech), eMBA Pertti Huuskonen is a board professional and an alum of the University of Oulu in mechanical engineering. Huuskonen is the CEO and Chair of the Board of the consultancy firm Lunacon Oy, founded by him. During his career, Huuskonen has held positions such as CEO and Chair of the Board at Technopolis Oyj. He has worked as a specialist and part-time teacher at the Oulu Business School.
Docent, MD Sakari Karjalainen has served as Secretary General of the Cancer Foundation Finland until 2022. Prior to that, he was Director General of the Department of Education and Science Policy at the Ministry of Education, Director of the Science Policy Division at the Ministry of Education and Secretary General of Research Council for Health at the Research Council of Finland. Karjalainen has also worked as a researcher at the Finnish Cancer Registry, as Senior Medical Officer at the National Research and Development Centre for Social Welfare and Health, and as Senior Assistant and Assistant Professor of epidemiology at the Tampere University.
Docent, PhD Leena Nissilä is an alum of the University of Oulu in Finnish and Director at the Institute for the Languages of Finland. During her career, she has held various management and expert positions in the Finnish National Agency for Education, and various research, teaching and expert positions at the University of Oulu, among others. She has held steering and working group management positions in the Finnish National Agency for Education, in various ministries and universities related to the development of education.
Docent, MD Anneli Pouta graduated as a doctor from the University of Oulu and has further qualified as a Specialist in Gynaecology and Obstetrics and as a Doctor of Medicine. She is the Head of Department and a member of the Executive Board of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and a member of the University of Oulu Advisory Board.
The Board of the University of Oulu decides, among other things, on the key objectives of the university's operations and finances, its strategy and steering principles, and its operative and financial plan. The Board will have a total of 10 members in the coming term, and according to the Universities Act, the Board elects its chair and vice chair from external members. The Board will be completed in the autumn of 2025 by two professors and two other staff representatives elected in the university elections. In addition, the Student Union of University of Oulu will elect two student members.
