Reflections from HHAI 2025: Hybrid Intelligence in Action

Last week, the vibrant city of Pisa, Italy became the global hub for researchers, practitioners, and thinkers exploring the future of Hybrid Human–Artificial Intelligence. From June 9–13, HHAI 2025 gathered a wonderfully diverse, interdisciplinary community at the intersection of AI, cognitive science, human-computer interaction, and ethics.

In HHAI, Oulu HI team also met the Dutch Hybrid Intelligence partners, and planned upcoming collaboration, and joined for a dinner later.

Four compelling keynote talks set the tone for the week, addressing urgent issues from cooperative AI design to the societal impact of AI integration in everyday life. The paper sessions showcased fresh research on Human–AI collaboration frameworks, ethical decision-making in hybrid systems, and adaptive, explainable, and generative AI. What stood out was the shared focus on human values and societal well-being.

The pre-conference workshops fostered lively debates around explainability, trust calibration, and AI applications in arts and public services. Poster and demo sessions featured AI-driven music tools, medical diagnostics support, and misinformation detection prototypes—proving hybrid intelligence is already taking shape.

A real highlight was the AI & Art events and the memorable social dinner in Pisa’s historic Arsenali Repubblicani, balancing academic exchange with cultural connection.

HHAI 2025 reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, designing AI systems that augment human intelligence, and prioritizing ethical, transparent, and sustainable practices. A heartfelt thank you to the organizing committee and local hosts. Looking forward to HHAI 2026 in Brussels!
