Remote Work Opportunities Are Being Developed in Kuusamo and Taivalkoski – Survey Open for Remote Workers and Those Interested in Remote Work

Viesselä countryside project is conducting a survey to explore experiences, needs, expectations, and development ideas related to remote work in Kuusamo and Taivalkoski. The survey provides valuable information to local municipalities, regional development actors, and other service providers for the development of remote work opportunities in Kuusamo and Taivalkoski.

The survey is intended for people who have worked remotely in Kuusamo or Taivalkoski, or who are interested in remote work in the region, who are at least 18 years old and live in Finland. The target group includes, for example, permanent residents, free-time residents, tourists, and other visitors of Kuusamo and Taivalkoski. The survey is also intended for individuals who are interested in working remotely in Kuusamo or Taivalkoski in the future, even if they have not yet visited the region.

“The survey provides an opportunity to share experiences and give feedback on remote work opportunities in Kuusamo and Taivalkoski, as well as to present views and expectations regarding, for example, what kind of remote workspaces and support services are needed in the area. The results will be shared with actors responsible for developing remote work opportunities in the Koillismaa region,” says the Project Researcher Niina Kotavaara from the University of Oulu Kerttu Saalasti Institute.

“Koillismaa is an ideal region for remote work. Work-related strain and time pressure are increasingly present in working life, and as a counterbalance to this, Koillismaa offers tranquility, stunning nature, and excellent opportunities for hobbies both in winter and during the snow-free seasons. The conditions for developing remote work are good, there is a wide range of accommodation available, and for those dreaming of moving, many opportunities can be found, for example, in local villages,” reflects the Project Manager Leena Jokinen from the Koillismaa regional development company Naturpolis Oy.

Respondents to the survey may, if they wish, participate in a lottery. Three gift cards worth 50 € each will be drawn among participants. Winners may choose either an S-group or K-group gift card. The winners will be contacted personally.

The survey is part of the Viesselä Countryside project, co-funded by the European Union, and implemented by the Koillismaa regional development company Naturpolis Oy together with the University of Oulu Kerttu Saalasti Institute.

Survey is open from 13 February to15 March 2026.
