Safe walking at the Linnanmaa campus – welcome indoors!

When Oulu’s winter brings slippery and cold conditions, moving outdoors can feel challenging. That’s why the University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) Linnanmaa campus offers older people and anyone interested the chance to enjoy walking in safe and warm indoor spaces.

You can come to the campus at your own pace and take a gentle walk along bright corridors, right in the midst of academic life. There’s plenty of space to move and rest on the campus. The route from one end of the indoor campus to the other is about 800 metres long. The campus is open on weekdays and Saturdays. Check opening hours

You may leave your outdoor clothes, for example, on the green or orange coat racks at the sides of the central hall – but please do take your valuables with you.

The cafés, restaurants, and the Pegasus scientific library at Linnanmaa serve visitors according to their own opening hours.

There are daily events at the University of Oulu, open to everyone. During the European Capital of Culture year, the selection is especially rich. Explore events on the university website

The university’s extensive art collection can be explored on free Finnish- and English-language walking tours throughout 2026, starting 22 January. The collection includes over 900 works by more than 300 artists. Advance registration for the tours is required. More information on the art tours

The Oamk art collection in the premises of Oulu University of Applied Sciences consists of approximately 550 pieces, most of which form a photography collection themed around northernness. Parts of the art collection can also be explored virtually. More information on Oamk’s art collection (in Finnish)
