Several researchers from the Process Metallurgy Research Unit visited the EEC 2026 conference
The yearly conferences tackling topics from electric steelmaking to material and energy efficiency as well as CO2 reduction in steel industry were arranged in Milan this year. The conferences had total 4 parallel sessions and 145 speakers gave their presentations. A total of over 600 people from around the world attended the conferences. Conference included plant visits to Tenaris steelworks in Dalmine and Tenova to the TenovaLab Combustion Laboratory and to the Pomini factory.
Process Metallurgy Research unit was represented by seven presentations. Ville-Valtteri Visuri and Eetu-Pekka Heikkinen gave Keynote presentations with topics of "Mathematical Modelling of Slag Phase Composition during the EAF Process in Stainless Steelmaking" and "A comparison of simulated and analysed phase compositions of solidified EAF slags" respectively.
Other presentations from process metallurgy research unit were "Dynamic Modeling and Optimization of Electric Arc Furnace Operation: Coupling Energy, Oxygen, and Slag Chemistry" by Ankur Agnihotri and presented by Ville-Valtteri Visuri, "Effect of hydrogen oxyfuel combustion on oxide scale descalability by thermal shock in low-carbon steels" by Susanna Airaksinen, "Preliminary Results on the Melting of Individual Hydrogen Direct Reduced Iron Pellets in a Laboratory-scale Electric Arc Furnace" by Matias Hauru, "Pellet porosity changes under simulated blast furnace shaft conditions" by Anne Heikkila and "Monitoring the Ar-plasma pre-melting of fluxed Cr2O3 and iron oxides in a lab-scale electric arc furnace" by Yuhan Sun.
