Success in the TalousGuru competition can open the door to Oulu Business School
TalousGuru is a national economics competition for upper secondary school students, where participants test their knowledge of economics and finance. The two-stage competition begins with a written examination, based on which a jury selects 14 finalists. In the final round, participants are assessed on both their written and oral skills, culminating in a debate on an economic topic.
The Could You Be the Next TalousGuru? roadshow, organised by Finance Finland in collaboration with Kaleva and the University of Oulu, arrived at Valkea Shopping Centre in Oulu on 2 November. During the event, Kaleva interviewed Greta Suorsa, a Master's student in Economics, and Marika Iivari, Vice Dean for Education at Oulu Business School.
"I am interested in pursuing an analytical expert role, such as working as an analyst, consultant or economist," says Greta Suorsa, reflecting on her future career plans. "Business and economics studies open up a wide range of opportunities, so I have kept my options open."
Marika Iivari explains the background to the collaboration with TalousGuru: "Geographically, we are responsible for business education across roughly half of Finland, and many of our students come from Northern Finland. We want to ensure that students have the opportunity to study here in the north and, if they wish, to build their future careers in their home region. At the same time, our graduates are well equipped for international careers."
Oulu Business School is an internationally recognised research and education unit accredited by AACSB. Its diverse portfolio of degree programmes includes two bachelor's programmes and six master's programmes, preparing graduates for expert and leadership roles in organisations of all sizes, across the private and public sectors, and as entrepreneurs – both in Finland and internationally.
