A two-way remote connection ensures the public nature of doctoral defenses
The Graduate School management group has clarified the guidelines concerning doctoral defense events. The most significant addition relates to situations where a doctoral defense is held outside the premises of University of Oulu or Oulu University Hospital.
If a doctoral defense is organised elsewhere, the public must be provided with the opportunity to participate via a two-way remote connection. This is essential to ensure that the defense is genuinely accessible to the public in practice.
The doctoral candidate is also responsible for ensuring that the doctoral defense notice is submitted at least 14 days prior to the event.
