University of Oulu transitions to electronic doctoral theses
Following the change, all doctoral theses at the University of Oulu will be stored exclusively in electronic format in the university’s publication repository, OuluREPO. Printing a doctoral thesis will become optional, and the University of Oulu will no longer reimburse doctoral candidates for printing costs. Printed copies produced at the candidate’s own expense will not be added to the collections of the university library.
A doctoral thesis and possible original papers may be published either openly or with restricted access in the electronic publication repository. The doctoral candidate will decide on the online accessibility within the limits set by the publishers of the thesis or its constituent publications. The electronic publication repository also enables the public display of the doctoral thesis prior to the public defence. More detailed instructions on submitting doctoral theses and original papers to the repository will be provided later this year.
The transition to electronic doctoral theses will streamline the final stages of the doctoral degree, support the digital accessibility of research results, and improve the impact of research.
