6G-enabled large-scale integration of electrified transportation via virtual power plants and wireless operators for the energy vertical.

Currently, the power grid cannot necessarily support the large-scale electrification of transportation needed for a green transition.
In this context, the energy vertical required to support a dynamic network management calls for an ICT-enabled transition of the energy systems. This cross-disciplinary project aims to define the elements for the roadmap needed to realize such a transition.

Project description

Premises
The power grid, in the way it is deployed today, cannot support the large-scale electrification of transportation needed for a green transition. Furthermore, the current developments in 5G cannot serve all applications of the energy vertical required to support dynamic supply-demand-storage management due to technological, regulatory, and business reasons that hinder the green-digital transition of energy systems.
Project aim
This cross-disciplinary proposal aims to define the sociotechnical roadmap needed to realize the green-digital transition by jointly focusing on the ICT based on 6G and the power grid as key enablers for large-scale transport electrification in the 5-year time frame and proving their technological feasibility in the representative test bed. This project also addresses the need to start a new research program for creating a multidisciplinary ecosystem of various researchers in which the potential for further research and future collaboration will be exploited. The following aims will specify the tasks that need to be accomplished in the project.
