Project description
The development project provides in-service training for subject teachers. The training enhances upper secondary school teachers’ competence in using movement and physical activity to support learning, promote a physically active lifestyle among young people, and strengthen a physically active culture in general upper secondary schools. The project focuses on increasing physically active learning (PAL) and incorporating physically active breaks into academic lessons.
The project has produced the material “Physically Active Classroom Practices for Upper Secondary School Lessons”, which supports the implementation of physically active learning in upper secondary schools through wide distribution.
The project has established a PAL pioneer teacher network consisting of upper secondary school teachers. The expertise of this network is utilised in the development of movement-based tasks and in the implementation of in-service training events on physically active learning. The project supports the implementation of physically active learning by disseminating the materials developed in the project within the pedagogical studies of subject teacher education at universities. This approach promotes the establishment of physically active learning as a permanent component of upper secondary school teaching and subject teacher education.
