PaJarvis – Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing Industry

PaJarvis aims to explore and develop a new AI-driven system that supports manufacturing operations, production management and daily work tasks in machine shops. The project integrates generative AI, company-specific knowledge bases and machine learning tools into a unified platform that enables users to interact with the system through natural language, both speech and text. Through this interaction, PaJarvis can provide guidance, generate work instructions, retrieve production-related information and, when appropriate, control and program manufacturing equipment through safe and well-defined interfaces.

The project is carried out in close collaboration with companies and four educational and research institutions, combining applied research with practical pilot cases in real industrial environments. Companies receive concrete demonstrations and validated examples of how AI can improve quality, efficiency and safety in manufacturing. The project will produce a research-based PaJarvis prototype, training materials and new operating models that support the responsible adoption of AI in industry. Ultimately, PaJarvis promotes digital transformation and strengthens AI readiness across Finland’s manufacturing sector.

The PaJarvis project will be implemented between 1 September 2026 and 31 August 2028, with Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) serving as the project coordinator. The project partners are the FMT Research Group at the University of Oulu, Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK), and REDU Vocational Education and Training Consortium of Rovaniemi. The University of Oulu's share of the project budget is €314,594. Funding for the PaJarvis project has been granted by the Economic Development Centre of Eastern Finland through the Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021-2027 programme (EU/ERDF). Additional funding is provided by JKS Products Ltd and Nokian Tyres plc.
