Project description
Shift2SDV is developing a common, language-independent middleware framework for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). The framework provides microservices for building automotive applications by abstracting the underlying hardware. The aim is to facilitate the management of software complexity in the automotive domain, support a gradual transition from current monolithic systems, and enable the integration of both open-source and proprietary components. The solution supports both safety-critical in-vehicle systems and off-vehicle mobility services.
Shift2SDV is building an agile, innovative, and profitable European SDV ecosystem. The consortium brings together actors from the automotive, software, and research sectors from countries such as Germany, Finland, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Austria, and the Netherlands. The consortium includes automotive manufacturers, technology companies, SMEs, research organisations, and universities collaborating to develop more open and modular software solutions for the automotive industry. The collaboration is based on the development of common interfaces, microservices, and middleware solutions, supporting interoperability between different technologies and the development of continuously updatable vehicle systems.
The M3S research unit participates in the project as a research and consortium partner within the European collaboration network. In Finland, M3S is part of the national participant network coordinated by DIMECC together with organisations including VTT, Plugit, Nordic Inertial, and Boogie Software.
