Project description

The aim of WOODBIO project is to strengthen and diversify the training offer of continuous learning in the wood and bio product industry to meet the training needs of companies. The project describes the educational paths of the fields and promotes the finding of innovative and sustainable solutions implemented in the fields.

The project produces an operating model that supports continuous learning and employment for the wood and bio product industries. The knowledge of companies' responsible persons and employment services about the possibilities of continuous learning increases and, as part of network cooperation, sustainable solutions are found to utilize RDI activities. The project consolidates cross-provincial cooperation between educational institutions, companies and stakeholders.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the University of Oulu (coordinator), the University of Eastern Finland and the universities of Lapland.

Project actions

Business cooperation

  • Our corporate cooperation coordinator works closely with companies in the fields, mapping e.g. their training needs
  • During the project, a plan is drawn up for the continuation of the cooperation also after the project

Competence development

  • A description and analysis of the continuous learning education offer of the fields will be created
  • Cooperation between educational institutions will be strengthened
  • A description of the competence needs of the regions and a training development plan as well as study path descriptions will be created
  • We produce trainings that support the training needs of companies in the fields
  • We produce customized competence sets for the needs of companies in the fields

Supraprovincial network and stakeholder cooperation

  • The already existing networks and clusters of the fields are mapped and contacted
  • The foresight of the sectors and the perspective of sustainable development are strengthened
  • Existing networks are supplemented or new ones are created as needed to support the continuous learning needs of the fields, sustainable vitality and foresight
  • Strengthening R&D cooperation

Service design processes

  • Service design processes are implemented as part of the project's other activities
  • The project ensures the implementation of a customer-oriented perspective

Management and communication

  • Impressive and multi-channel communication is implemented throughout the project
  • The operation of the project's steering and expert groups is ensured
  • We report on the project's activities to the financier and stakeholders

Project results

The concrete results of the WOODBIO project are:

  1. Improving the accessibility of university studies, skills and services.
  2. Closer cooperation between secondary education institutions, universities and companies.
  3. Employment of working-age people in the wood and bioproduct industry.
  4. Companies' own development and forecasting plans.
  5. Producing trainings that meet the needs of continuous learning.

The results and experiences of the project will be utilized after the end of the project through the creation and development of coordination activities. The tools, operating models and trainings produced in the project are utilized in responding to companies' skills needs and in business development.
