Research group description

ASSET RG is a research group focused on advancing sustainable separation and membrane technologies for the energy transition and circular economy. The group connects fundamental science with practical applications, developing energy-efficient solutions in process intensification, hybrid systems, and biomimetic materials. Through high-impact research and strong industrial relevance, ASSET RG aims to build international visibility and contribute to positioning the University of Oulu as a recognized hub in advanced separation science and membrane research.

Lab-scale:

  1. Dead-end filtration unit
  2. Automatic thin film casting
  3. Vacuum filtration
  4. Low profile roller
  5. Leaching reactor
  6. Crossflow micro- (MF), ultra- (UF), nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO) and pervaporation (PV) unit
  7. Membrane gas separation testing unit

Bench-scale:

  1. Forward osmosis/ Pressure retarded osmosis (FO/PRO) unit
  2. SEPA Crossflow micro- (MF), ultra- (UF), nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO)
  3. Photocatalytic membrane cell

Pilot-scale:

  1. 200L spiral-wound membrane unit for MF UF, NF and RO
  2. 200L tubular membrane unit for MF, UF, NF and RO
