Systems epidemiology

Systems epidemiology is a rather new field of research that aims to understand complex interactions between multiple factors that influence health and disease within populations. It integrates knowledge and methods from various disciplines, such as molecular epidemiology, sociology, anthropology, computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, medical statistics, and multiple modern ‘omics sciences like genetics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, metabolomics, and lipidomics. Systems epidemiology strives to identify molecular drivers and metabolic pathways central to health and to the development of common diseases. Ultimately this information would serve the society to prevent diseases and to improve population health.
