Abdelhak Kharbouch

Abdelhak Kharbouch, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Stage II) at the Centre for Wireless Communications in the University of Oulu. His research focuses on IoT, digital twins, AI and ML integration, and next-generation wireless technologies for smart infrastructure applications, including smart grids, energy systems, civil engineering, and water management.

Dr. Kharbouch received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in February 2023 from Moulay Ismail University, Meknes, Morocco, in collaboration with the International University of Rabat. He previously obtained a M.Sc. in Computer Networks and Embedded Systems from Moulay Ismail University in 2017. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Kharbouch served as a Researcher and Project Manager at the International University of Rabat (2018-2023), where he also held a part-time position as Adjunct Professor with significant teaching and supervision experience. Earlier, he was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Antwerp, Belgium (2016-2017), contributing to research on IoT, big data, and real-time data processing for e-health applications.

His research interests lie at the intersection of IoT systems, smart buildings, energy-efficient infrastructures, digital twins, and data-driven intelligent systems. Dr. Kharbouch has been actively involved in several international research projects funded by organizations such as Business Finland, the European Union, and the European Regional Development Fund. He is playing leading roles in projects including DigiPave, DARE-X, Water Data Space, REEVA, and TEKU, contributing to the development of digital twin technologies, resilient energy systems, and data-driven infrastructure management. He is also a Co-PI in the 6GESS-NRI project on 6G-enabled grid resilience.
