Online community, online social interaction
My research focuses on the effects of new communication technologies on human sociality, as well as questions of design and administration for such technologies. Lately I've explored the themes of community and affinity online, embodied knowledge in digital interaction, and life writing. I am particularly interested in hobbyist communities and accessibility for newcomers to specialised fields of interest such as wilderness activities or traditional music and dance. My research approach is participatory, qualitative and multi-method, with social action as the main focus, based on the principles of mediated discourse analysis and nexus analysis.
