I am a researcher and psychiatrist, who’s interested in studying prognosis and effects of treatments in psychiatric disorders. I have studied prognosis of schizophrenia and other psychoses since 2001, mainly by utilising the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 (NFBC 1966). In the ongoing project “Beneficial and harmful effects of antipsychotics in psychoses and off-label use” funded by the Academy of Finland my group will focus on deciphering the effects of antipsychotics use in non-psychotic conditions, mainly insomnia, anxiety and depression. For these conditions, large part of antipsychotic use is without official indication i.e. off label use. We will analyse the associations between AP use and psychiatric symptomatology, suicidality, cognition, occupational functioning, and metabolics in different samples: During years 2019-2023 our group will collect in naturalistic patient sample form primary and secondary care in Oulu area, and also NFBC 1966 will be utilised. Beside this, studies on antipsychotic effects and long-term outcomes of psychoses will continue.
