Jarkko Tolvanen

Jarkko Tolvanen

Jarkko received his B.Sc., M.Sc. (Tech.), and D.Sc. (Tech.) degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Oulu in 2014, 2015, and 2018, respectively. He has conducted research continuously since 2007, often holding overlapping positions at two universities during his studies and early career, accumulating over 18 years of hands-on research experience at an early stage.

From 2018 to 2022, he was a postdoctoral researcher on the Infotech Oulu ENTITY project, where he developed the first self-healing elastomers. He then secured consecutive Research Council of Finland-funded positions, first as a postdoctoral researcher (2023–2025) and now as an Academy Research Fellow starting in 2025, establishing himself as an independent researcher.

Since 2018, he has been leading the development of a self-healing material platform for soft electronics applications, combining fundamental innovation with practical applicability. During the past 10 years, he has contributed to nine invention disclosures, three granted patents, and eight pending applications, most of which focus on self-healing materials, demonstrating a sustained record of innovation alongside his research.
