Advanced Electronics Center
The research in AEC includes but is not limited to printed electronics and photonics, biomedical sensing, tissue spectroscopy, acousto-optics, photoacoustics, aerial imaging, self-healing materials, integrated circuits, system-on-chips (SoCs) and battery technologies. Other topics include for example micro- and nano-level packaging, energy harvesting and storage for self-sufficient electronic systems as well as research for new materials and techniques for many application areas, such as physiological sensors.
Our work is not only research but also education. We teach many courses in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering for future professionals. Ranging from basics of electrical engineering, measurement techniques and fabrication of electronics all the way to highly advanced courses in such topics as energy harvesting technologies and biophotonics for masters’ students and PhD students.
Our research and teaching is all based on decades of experience in the field and is always kept up-to-date with the latest in research. The target is to generate multidisciplinary research to bring value to whole society; linking materials, devices and integrated systems in next-generation sensing devices.
Our values show in our research and teaching. The work in AEC targets the next generation of electronics which are more energy-efficient, durable and usable. A big part of our research is related to health industry, which in addition to application driven research provides a possibility for significant impact on society.
We are a diverse unit from students to highly experienced professionals, spanning across multiple nationalities and backgrounds with a mutual interest in the future of electronics. Our unit is lead by Prof. Ilkka Nissinen. AEC is comprised of three research group, listed below.
