Juha Pekka Lunkka

I hold the Chair of Quaternary Geology at the University of Oulu, where I have been based since August 2002. Currently, I am also the leader of the 'Geological Systems and Arctic Mineral Resourches' -research community based in the Faculty of Technology. My previous academic appointments include various research posts in several research institutes. I was Assistant Professor at the University of Helsinki (1992-1998), Senior Scientist at the Geological Survey of Finland (1998-2001) and Professor of the Quaternary Geology at the University of Turku, Finland (2001-2002). At the University of Oulu, I have been the Head and the Vice Head of the Department of Geosciences (2010-2013) and subsequently the Dean of the Oulu Mining School and the member of the Oulu University Steering Group (2014-2017). Currently, I am Adjunct Professor of Geology and Palaeontology at the University of Helsinki (appointed 2000) and Member of the Oulu University Research Council (since 2013). My research interest is to understand past local and global environmental and climate change and their mechanisms using sedimentological and stratigraphical methods.
