Julia joined the University of Oulu in August 2021 after six years at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, USA. She received her professional degree of clinical psychology (2004), Dr. phil. in psychology (2008), and higher doctorate/venia legendi (2015) in developmental psychology from the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. She holds honorary positions at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), University Hospital Essen (Germany), University of Warwick (UK) and University of Leicester (UK).
Julia's main research areas are early life stress and long-term resilience. She is involved in multiple longitudinal studies of diverse populations, working with international interdisciplinary teams. Her goal is to contribute to understanding the complex biopsychosocial mechanisms that control mental health, cognitive, academic, and social development over time, to design effective avenues towards intervention. Julia's track record contains >100 publications and >1.25 million EUR received in research funding.
