Karin Väyrynen

Karin Väyrynen is a Senior Research Fellow in the INTERACT research group, and Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Oulu. She is the principal investigator of the Research Council of Finland funded AI-REG project (grant agreement #347221, 2022-2026) investigating the European Act on Artificial Intelligence. Her recent research focuses on studying the impact of public policy and law on the development and use of technology, the role of regulatory ambiguity, industry-level digital transformation, and the reciprocal relationship between law and technological development. Her research has been published in journals such as the Information Systems Journal, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, the Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Electronic Markets, and JMIR Medical Informatics, as well as various information systems conferences.

Väyrynen has co-supervized several Ph.D. thesis in the area of connected health. She has mainly employed in-depth qualitative research methods and has broad experience in interpretive qualitative research and analysis. She has participated in several EU-funded projects.
