Kati Asikainen

I am a doctoral researcher fellow in the I4WORLD training program at the University of Oulu, co-funded by European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under the Marie-Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action. My project aims for developing novel 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures for green hydrogen production via photocatalytic water splitting. I am focusing on computational modelling using density functional theory (DFT), combined with machine learning techniques in order to accelerate the design and discovery of materials. This will be completed by experiments. Viable candidates will be synthestized and experimentally measured for instance with angle-reseolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) which enable testing of the theoretical predictions.
