I am a doctoral student at the Oulu Functional NeuroImaging research group. After earning my Master of Science degree in Biophysics, I have focused my studies on exploring brain functions using advanced imaging techniques. At the heart of my research is the use of Magnetic Resonance Encephalography (MREG), a type of fast functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), which allows us to capture rapid changes in brain activity.
In our research group, we combine MREG with other technologies such as MRI-compatible electroencephalography (EEG), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and continuous non-invasive blood pressure monitoring (NIBP) in a unique multimodal scanning setup. This integration enables us to gain a comprehensive understanding of brain function, particularly in relation to fluid dynamics, which aids in the development of more sensitive and specific disease markers and treatments.
My work focuses on developing innovative data analysis methodologies to interpret the complex datasets we collect through our imaging techniques. I am particularly interested in enhancing our understanding of cerebral blood flow and the glymphatic system, especially as they are affected by diseases like Alzheimer’s and hypertension. To achieve this, I utilize advanced data analysis tools to study physiological brain pulsations that influence brain fluid dynamics, and I plan to incorporate machine learning algorithms to further refine our analyses. Through my research, I aspire to connect clinical practice with advanced neuroimaging research, aiming to provide findings that could significantly improve diagnostics and treatments for those affected by neurological disorders.
