Mineral Processing
Maria is the main coordinator of a strategic educational consortium, the international joint master's degree programme Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Sustainable Mineral and Metal Processing Engineering – (PROMISE).
She has acted as a PI of several multidisciplinary research projects funded by EU, ministries, industry, and foundations. Maria has experience in the field of Mineral Processing Engineering. She possesses an in-depth knowledge of design and optimisation of flotation circuits, as well as geometallurgy and experience with modelling and simulation software for Mineral Processing and Flow Sheet Development. She has conducted extensive surveys of flotation and comminution circuits, working in both operational settings and pilot plant campaigns, as well as metallurgical laboratories in Peru, Australia, and internationally. She has been involved in projects and technical studies related to most key Mining Commodities - copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, gold.
•She has received the University of Oulu prizes for ‘Succeeding Together, 2022’ and ‘Equality and Diversity Honorary Mention, 2025’ and the prize of ‘Future Skills, 2025’.
•Under her lidership the PROMISE program got the 2024 EIT Label for Quality Education and was published by the EACEA as a showcase ‘Fostering curriculum design based on intended learning outcomes’, also, PROMISE was nominated as a finalist in Mining Magazine
