Mounir Takriti

My research focuses on the interactions between climate change, human activity and terrestrial ecosystems. I study carbon cycling and the exchange of greenhouse gases between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere, with particular attention to how carbon stored in soils responds to land use and a changing climate. Most of my research has been carried out in temperate, boreal and Arctic environments, and especially in peatlands, which hold large amounts of carbon and are highly sensitive to disturbance. My current work examines how extreme climate events affect the carbon balance of Arctic and subarctic ecosystems.
