I work as a doctoral researcher in history at the University of Oulu, Research Unit of History, Culture and Communications. In my PhD thesis, I study experiences of forced displacement and emplacement of Lapland War evacuees (1944-1945) and contemporary refugees in Finland through oral history methods, with particular interest in the theme of mutual recognition (Honneth 1995).
I have done my research as part of multidisciplinary research projects Recognition and belonging: Forced migrations, troubled histories and memory cultures (Academy of Finland 2017–2021), Margins of Memory: The Legacies of the Lapland War and Reconstruction (Kone Foundation 2022–2026) and Mobile Futures: Diversity, Trust and Two-Way Integration (Strategic Research Council 2021–2027).
The work has been supported by The Finnish Cultural Foundation and The North Ostrobothnia Regional Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
