Caregivers and care recipients developed their skills in kinaesthetics courses
Caregivers and care recipients developed their skills in kinaesthetics courses
Caregivers and care recipients benefited from the kinaesthetics course if they applied the learned techniques at home, states Master of Health Care Anne Haapala in her doctoral dissertation.
Recent political decisions have led to the aim of caring for the older people at home for as long as possible. As family caregiving is becoming more common in Finland, it is important to ensure the competence and capabilities of caregivers and care recipients. In her doctoral dissertation, Haapala examines family caregiving and kinaesthetics training from an ergonomic perspective. The research provides new information on how kinaesthetics training can support caregivers and care recipients at home. The dissertation is related to a broader discussion on the care of the ageing population and the support of caregivers.
This participatory and communicative action research explores family caregiving and kinaesthetics training from an ergonomics perspective. The aim of the research was to improve the smoothness of family caregiving and the well-being of caregivers and care recipients. This is the first study on the subject, and it provides new information on how kinaesthetics training can support caregivers and care recipients at home.
The study’s key findings indicate that caregiving processes should be developed so that all caregivers have the necessary knowledge and skills for their tasks. The availability of various support interventions, such as kinaesthetics training, throughout the caregiver’s career is very important. The results are socially significant, as they can influence political decisions and practical actions to develop caregiving.
