Virtual geology and mineralogy museum is part of the Faculty of Technology.
Oulu Mining school research unit, operating at the Faculty of Technology, do research and give education in geosciences, mining and minerals engineering.
The most important task of the digital museum is to present geology and mineralogy of Finland and other countries to all who are interested in the topic.
The mission of the museum is to make geology easily available for all. Due to virtuality, everyone can study these beautiful pieces of natural art and formations remotely, - at home, school or elsewhere.
Collection consists important samples for education, covering diverse set of stone species, ore samples and minerals.
There are about 1 000 digitalized samples and outcrops in the collection, modelled from different part of the Finland and world.
The virtual 3D-models in the collection have been annotated to help you to identify the minerals and other noteworthy features in the samples.
By pressing the AR button at the bottom of the image that opens, you can bring the sample into your own room as an augmented reality object.
Access all the digitalized geology and minerals samples of the University of Oulu here.
