Borrowing and using the library
The collections and services of Oulu University Library are generally available for use by everyone.

It is advisable to inform the library immediately of a lost library card. Upon accepting the card the library user agrees to comply with the Borrowing Rules and Rules of Use of the Library.
Customers who are not University of Oulu or Oamk students or staff can get a library card in the library by proving their identity. To save time, you can register as a customer by filling in the online form in Oula-Finna before coming to the library to pick up your card.

The customer can update their changed contact information by logging in to Oula-Finna. Personal details can be found from Profile -section.
The contact information of University of Oulu and Oamk staff are updated in the library’s user register directly from the human resources information systems of the University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences.
Borrowed items have to be returned or renewed by the due date. The items can be returned to any of the library units. However, we recommend returning items to the unit housing the collection to which it belongs.
You can also return library items by post at your own responsibility. Remember to pack the items with care to protect them from moisture during transport and send the package at a Posti service point. Since the library does not have a mobile phone number for arrival notices, packages cannot be sent online.

A due date reminder will be sent 3 days before the due date and on the due date. The day after the due date, an overdue notice will be sent by email.
If a book is not returned, the library charges fines on all overdue items.

Items left in the returns box are checked in on the next date the library is open.
Please note! Overdue fees are added to your account in Oula-Finna gradually as you renew your overdue loans. The total amount of the fees is not visible until you have renewed all your overdue loans. Loans can be renewed until the block limit (20€) is reached. To renew the rest of the loans, you must first pay the accumulated charges. The fee limit is 50€. If the amount is more or if you reach it before you have renewed all your loans, please contact the library via chat or by email.
Online payment is possible in Oula-Finna through Finnish online banking services and by credit card. See instructions in Oula-Finna.
Overdue fees for loans that are more than 38 days overdue cannot be paid in Oula-Finna. Please contact the library to settle them.
It is not possible to pay fees in the Oulainen Learning Centre (online payment only).
You can place requests for items available for home loan that are checked out to another customer.
The request is valid for six months.
If you wish to place a request for an item only available for reading room/researcher loan, please contact the library (students and non-university customers). University of Oulu and Oamk staff can place requests for reading room/researcher loans in Oula-Finna. There are detailed instructions in the Oula-Finna library catalogue.
When placing requests by e-mail or phone, remember to tell your name and library card number.
You can place requests for items that are not checked out.
Printed legal deposit materials (whose call number begins with ”P F”) are kept in the legal deposit archive in the Pegasus Library.
Library users may order the material for reading room or researcher loan by placing an order through the Oula-Finna online catalogue or at the library service desk. There are detailed instructions in the Oula-Finna library catalogue.
The last collection date can be checked in the request arrival notification e-mail, in Tuudo or in the Holds and Recalls tab in Oula-Finna.
