This course concisely and comprehensively covers the most important aspects of antennas for the future 5G cellular networks, including their fundamental concepts, challenges and state-of-the-art. Initially, the antenna electromagnetic properties are going to be presented, as well as the main antenna types used in cellular networks. Posterior, the theory of conventional and reconfigurable antenna arrays are going to be discussed into details. Finally, many prototypes of mm-waves reconfigurable antenna arrays for 5G networks, including optically-controlled arrays, will be presented.
Arismar Cerqueira S. Jr. received his B. Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Bahia-Brazil in 2001, M. Sc. Degree from Unicamp-Brazil in 2002 and Ph. D. degree from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna-Italy in 2006. He has been Invited Researcher and Professor from many world-recognized universities, such as University of Bath-UK (2004, 2005 and 2007), Max-Planck Institute-Germany (2010), Danish Technical University-Denmark (2013) and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna-Italy (2015). He was Associate Professor from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), from March 2009 to August 2011, when he joined the National Institute of Telecommunications (Inatel) from Brazil to work in the same position. Since 2009 he has been acting as a Coordinator of R&D Projects on diverse areas of telecommunications, including Antennas, 5G Networks, Radars and Microwave Photonics. He is a holder of 07 patents, has transferred 15 products to the industry and has published 160 scientific papers.
