Abstract:

Chemical sensors will be viewed from many aspects, including sensor materials, different kind of devices, characterization and evaluation of sensors, field testing and commercialization. The lectures cover basic definitions of sensor performance and detection mechanism of different kinds of sensors. The importance of nanotechnology for the chemical sensor area will be highlighted with examples of sensors based on nanowires and nanoparticles. The increased requirements on sensors for field testing will be covered. Experience from four spin-off companies in the chemical sensor area will be given.
