Promoting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and cooperation

Centres for multidisciplinary research systematically promote multidisciplinary research at the University of Oulu in areas of global challenges, particularly through spearhead and emerging projects. Centres for multidisciplinary research develop the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research profile of the University of Oulu in close co-operation with the faculties, for example through foresight work. The societal interaction and stakeholder co-operation of centres for multidisciplinary research will increase the impact of research results.

Strategic goals

Research

  • Enabling multidisciplinary research co-operation, particularly through spearhead and emerging projects, in order to achieve internationally significant research results.
  • Promoting and supporting strategic profiling and identifying new multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research openings, for example through foresight work.
  • Interaction with research funders to direct the contents of research and funding programmes.

Education

Supporting high-quality and multidisciplinary doctoral training and promoting interaction between doctoral researchers.

Societal interaction and impact

The centres for multidisciplinary research participate in, and encourage researchers to engage in, societal interaction and stakeholder co-operation to increase the impact of research results and raise the level of research.

Well-being of the community

Increasing the networking of researchers across disciplines in order to promote communality, with researchers from spearhead and emerging projects and their networks as a special target group.
