Purpose of processing personal data and legal basis for processing personal data
Producing the student enrollment forecast for the strategic development of the University of Oulu and for the implementation of the property strategy. The student enrollment forecast is used not only for the real estate strategy but also for the development of the degree program portfolio (strategic development of the University of Oulu). Personal data is processed to produce the student enrollment forecast to support the development of the university's operations.
The University of Oulu processes personal data based on the legal grounds provided in Article 6(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the public interest/exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
Special categories of personal data are not processed.
Personal data to be processed
Processed personal data of applicants to the University of Oulu:
- Municipality of residence,
- Application target,
- Priority of the application target in the joint application process for higher education institutions, and
- Information on acceptance of the study place.
At the University of Oulu, only those employees of the University of Oulu or persons acting on behalf of and for the University of Oulu who need the information for their work tasks process the data.
Recipients or categories of recipients of personal data
The University of Oulu may use external data processors, such as companies providing system services, which process personal data on behalf of the University of Oulu based on a service agreement.
The University of Oulu discloses your data only to parties that have a statutory right to receive the information for a legally specified purpose, or to whom the disclosure of data is necessary for handling employment-related matters and tasks related to employer activities.
Additionally, data is disclosed for scientific or historical research purposes and for statistical purposes based on separate disclosure requests.
Transfers of personal data to third countries or international organizations
Data is not transferred or disclosed outside the European Union or the European Economic Area.
Data storage time
Duration of processing: Until June 30, 2025, after which the data will be destroyed.
Data subject rights
You have the following rights as a data subject:
- Right to access your data
- Right to have inaccurate data corrected (make sure to keep your contact information up to date)
- In certain situations, the right to have data erased ("right to be forgotten")
- In certain situations, the right to restriction of processing
- In certain situations, the right to object to processing
- In certain situations, the right to have data transferred from one system to another if the processing is based on consent or agreement and is performed automatically.
Please note that the applicability and scope of your above-mentioned rights will be specified on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, depending on e.g. the grounds for processing the data, and that you do not have the above-mentioned rights in all cases.

Use of personal data for automated decisions and profiling
No automated decision-making is involved in the processing of personal data.
Right of appeal to the supervisory authority
In addition to the rights mentioned above, you have the right to file a complaint about the processing of your personal data with the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman as the supervisory authority. The University as the Data Controller uses appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against damage or loss.
