Highlights of the University of Oulu’s Oulu2026 Culture Programme in October
Culture to brighten your study day
You can enjoy culture during lunchtime on the Kontinkangas campus on Wednesday, 7 October, from 11.30 to 12.00, when musicians from the Oulu University Chamber Orchestra perform folk music alongside lunch, bringing a touch of musical joy to the October gloom. Restaurant Medisiina is also worth visiting on Wednesday, 28 October, from 11.30 to 12.00, when Teekkaritorvet arrive at Kontinkangas to perform atmospheric jazz music.
On the Linnanmaa campus, the Student Theatre of Oulu’s improvisation group invites students, staff and passers-by to dive into the world of improvisation on Thursday, 8 October, from 9.50 to 10.10 in the Tellus Linnanmaa lobby area. The Student Theatre of Oulu also offers the opportunity to enjoy a spooky lunchtime experience on Wednesday, 14 October, from 11.30 to 12.00 at Restaurant Kerttu, where performers will entertain lunch guests with Halloween-themed stories.
A special highlight of October is the Oulu University Chamber Orchestra’s lunchtime concert in Saalasti hall on Wednesday, 28 October, from 11.30 to 12.15. Join us for a beautifully performed and relaxing musical interlude during your lunch break! The doors of Saalasti hall will remain open so that guests dining at the neighbouring Restaurant Kerttu can also enjoy the music.
Creative activities for students
Throughout the autumn, the Linnanmaa campus hosts the Print, Laser & Decorate workshops, which are open to everyone and offer an opportunity to explore the intersection of art, design and technology with the guidance of professionals. In October’s Glow in Your Own Style workshops, participants can design and print their own patterns on textiles. In early November, the Laser-Cut Your Own Accessory workshop will give participants the chance to design and create items such as earrings or bow ties using laser-cutting technology. No prior experience, registration or participation fee is required, making these workshops an easy and accessible way to explore creative making during the study day.
More cultural experiences
October also sees the continuation of the University of Oulu’s popular art tours, which showcase the university’s significant art collection. While the Finnish-language tours in October are already fully booked, places are still available on the English-language art tour on 27 October at 10.
