Marko Huttula and Pauli Väisänen join the Board of Directors

On the Board of Directors of the University of Oulu, Professor Marko Huttula will replace Tiina Kinnunen, and Project Researcher Pauli Väisänen will replace Kimmo Kontio for the remainder of the term from 1 January to 31 December 2025. The University Collegium confirmed the appointments at its meeting on 6 November 2024.

In addition, the University Collegium authorized its chair, together with the professor members of the collegium, to initiate the selection process for a professor to replace Johanna Uusimaa on the Board of Directors.

According to the election regulations, board vacancies are filled by the next eligible candidate from the results of the 2021 administrative elections. However, as no new member can be appointed to replace Johanna Uusimaa based on the election results, the board has requested the University Collegium to select a substitute professor member for the board. Professors Tiina Kinnunen and Johanna Uusimaa, as well as staff representative, University Lecturer Kimmo Kontio, announced their resignations from the board at its meeting held on 26 September.

Professor members representing the Faculty of Education and Psychology within the University Collegium will also change from 1 January 2025, as Mirka Hintsanen has resigned for personal reasons and her deputy member, Vesa Puuronen, is retiring. Following consultation with the faculty’s professors, the collegium appointed Juha Salmitaipale as the professor member and Anu Kajamaa as the deputy to the collegium. According to the election regulations, collegium members replacing those who have resigned are appointed based on administrative election results; if that is not feasible, the collegium makes an appointment after consulting the relevant group.

The collegium also discussed with the chair and vice-chair of the Board of Directors on current issues affecting the university.
