Small changes to the composition of the university collegium

The collegium of the University of Oulu met for its fifth meeting of the year on August 23, 2022.

In place of Sirpa Aalto, personal deputy Vesa Virtanen will become a full member of the university collegium, and his deputy will be Pirjo Suvilehto. Student member Jukka Turunen has graduated and is therefore no longer a member of the collegium. A new member will be elected later.

The university's board of directors visited the meeting of the university collegium and discussed current issues concerning the university with the collegium. The topics of the discussion were, among other things, the ability of teaching and research and support service staff to cope with the fragmentation of work, as well as the effect of this on the success of students in their studies and the attractiveness of the University of Oulu as an employer.

In addition, the university collegium instructed the chairwoman Helka-Liisa Hentilä to the interim review with the Ministry of Education and Culture. The collegium stated that advancing in the direction of higher education and science policy goals and related development work (including digitization development) require sufficient resources. The ministry organizes interim reviews of the 2021–2024 performance agreement period with all universities, and the meeting with the University of Oulu is on September 15.
