Students are satisfied with the services provided by the university
In early spring, an evaluation of student services was conducted, with 590 students responding. The evaluation was carried out as a survey, and its purpose was to assess and develop the quality of services offered to students. The evaluation included services provided by the Library, Faculty Study Services, Study Psychologists, Career Guidance/Career Centre, UniMove Sports Services, Tellus, ICT Services, Lobby Services, and the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY). Each service unit will review the feedback and apply it in their own operations. The evaluation also produced a substantial amount of open-ended feedback that supports further development.
The key strengths highlighted in the evaluation were students’ satisfaction with the services offered by the university. The services are considered high-quality, functional, and important for students. The expertise and friendliness of the staff were emphasized as major strengths.
The main development areas identified were communication (what services exist, how they are used) and accessibility (e.g., opening hours, visibility of service points). The quality of services is perceived as good when students manage to find and access them.
Students share a common need for smoother services, clarity, and individualized support. Services should be easy to use without complicated investigation, and clearer instructions are needed (e.g., printing, room reservations, locations of service points). Students value personalized and low-threshold support, but many expressed experiences such as “I didn’t know where to ask” or “the threshold for contacting someone is high.”
Many open responses expressed concern that services at the Linnanmaa campus are more visible and comprehensive, while the Kontinkangas campus feels overlooked. Students therefore hope for more equality between campuses.
The service units involved in the evaluation are now reviewing the results, and any potential development measures will be communicated later.
