Project description

In fish processing, nutrients are wasted along with water and fish side streams. These valuable by-products would be better utilized through process development and productization. In the KALAVERRAKKI project, the fish cleaning process is developed so that it uses less water and is more efficient. Oil and fat are removed from the water, and thus problems at the wastewater treatment plant can be avoided. The possibility of recovering nutrients from the water and their utilization as fertilizers is being investigated.

The project partners and collaborators are Laitakarin Kala Oy, Hätälä Oy, Owatec Group Oy, Ii Waterworks, Matti Isohätälä, Carbons Finland Oy, Carbofex Oy and Tmi Rami Salminen.
