Project description

Hydrogen production is based on local green electricity (solar, wind). Also, the feasibility of the solar hydrogen for the local hydrogen production will be studied. Solutions based on solar hydrogen will be developed for local hydrogen production in the conditions of Northern Finland. This energy is carbon neutral resulting in a minimal carbon footprint. This pilot system is the first step for Northern Finland moving towards future hydrogen-based society.

The research includes the evaluation of different hydrogen production systems both from business and technical point of views including the estimation of production volumes and implementation alternatives. Regulation and standards related to the hydrogen fueling point are important to be understood together with right hydrogen storage solutions. The research project focuses also on use of hydrogen for heavy road transportation including distribution network, trucks using hydrogen fuel and companies investing and utilizing hydrogen energy. The research results will be disseminated in publications and seminars. Especially municipalities, energy industry and transportation and logistics companies are very interested in project results.
