Project description

In an increasingly uncertain world, the safety of water can no longer be taken for granted. Climate change, demographic shifts, geopolitical tensions, and aging infrastructure challenge Finland’s ability to provide secure and equal access to clean water. WaterFall strengthens water security and resilience from source to tap by developing new management approaches and decision-making tools. The project brings together experts from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Finnish Environment Institute, University of Oulu, University of Lapland, National Defence University, and Demos Helsinki. Through risk scenarios, GIS and data analysis, fieldwork, and multicriteria decision frameworks, the project supports water utilities in anticipating threats and making long-term, sustainable choices. WaterFall reinforces national readiness and contributes to safe water access as a pillar of societal resilience.
