Arts-based and Creative Researchers Network (Taideverkko)

The Arts-based and Creative Researchers Network brings together researchers interested in arts-based and creative methods in educational an social sciences research. It provides a platform for methodological discussion, knowledge sharing, and collaboration for researchers in different phases of their career.

Creative and arts-based methods are seen as an umbrella term for research in which creativity or art plays a central role in the formation of research knowledge and in which especially educational but also social, cultural, political, philosophical, and ecological phenomena are studied through and with the help of art. Art forms include but are not limited to visual arts, poetry, music, drama and dance. Art is seen as central to the research process, the formulation of the research question, the production of data or the presentation of results.

In the Network, you can

  • Present your own research, the process and results.
  • Share knowledge and practices on how arts-based and creative methods have been applied in different stages of research – from ideation to publication.
Additionally, you can share ways to learn about these methods, such as reading circles, workshops, and courses.
  • Share information about articles, courses, and events related to these methods.
  • Invite and bring together smaller groups to work on specific methods and create subgroups within the network for collaboration.
  • Invite guests, including those outside academia, such as artists or representatives of foundations.
  • Try out or pilot methods in practice with members of the network.
  • Ponder on methodological, ethical questions together, in connection to these methods.

Goals of the Network

  • Follow what kind of research is being conducted on arts-based and creative methods across different institutions.
  • Aim to map the network of methods and their interconnections.
  • Make possible collaboration across universities
