Research group description

The research group is multidisciplinary gathering together several research disciplines (sports sciences, public health, health sciences, geography, economics, pedagogics, psychology, computer science, medical technology, information studies, and cultural anthropology) and actors of various fields. The group is focusing on research concerning the association between physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, health and wellbeing among different age groups. In addition, the aim is to reveal the association between environmental features and physical activity and to study the societal and economic impacts of physical activity and sedentary behavior. The aim is also to study and develop new methods for activating people at community level by using modern wellbeing technology. New knowledge can be utilized in education, research and decision making.

Our team

Where are we headed

The main goals of our research are

  • To reveal the life course determinants and trajectories of physically active and sedentary lifestyle, and healthy and unhealthy eating habits
  • To reveal the association between built and natural environmental features and physical activity and how changes in these during lifecourse are related to each other
  • To study the economic impacts of physical activity and sedentary behavior
  • To evaluate the effects of physical activity and sedentary behavior on health and wellbeing
  • To develop new methods for activating people using multidisciplinary approach
