Anniina Leiviskä is an Associate Professor (tenure track) in philosophy of education in the sub-field of democratic education at the University of Oulu, Faculty of Education. She holds a title of Docent in philosophy of education. In her recent research, Leiviskä has focused on philosophical issues concerning democracy and democratic education especially in relation to the current phenomena and challenges of democratic societies, such as political polarization, growing social and educational inequalities, and the status of minority and marginalised groups. Leiviskä currently leads two research projects with scholars working at the universities of Oulu and Helsinki: Democratic Education and Political Polarization in the Era of Global Crises (Kone foundation 2021-2024) and Democratic Education and Social Inequalities in Politically Polarised Societies (Eudaimonia institute, University of Oulu, 2023-2027).
